Cottrill's Opera House

Mills Group was engaged by Alpine Heritage Preservation to provide architectural services for the rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of the historic Cottrill’s Opera House in Thomas, WV. Our scope includes an in-depth building evaluation, thorough documentation of existing conditions, code analysis based on proposed uses and program elements, as well as conceptual design and visualization services.

Because a system of heavy timber structural shoring—installed in 2003—limits the ability to take traditional field measurements, Mills Group employed advanced technology to capture the building’s form. Using a 3D laser point cloud scan of the 1903 structure, our team developed accurate existing-conditions documentation to serve as the foundation for detailed planning and design.
