St. John University Parish

St. John University Parish

The firm was commissioned to design an updated entry vestibule and upgraded interior for the historic St. John Parish located on WVU’s downtown campus in Morgantown. Originally constructed in 1961 as a temporary base for on-campus missionary work, the building became home to a large congregation over its fifty-year history. The conceptual design for upgrades to the church involved an expansion to the existing balcony, a redesign of the altar and tabernacle area, and the addition of a contemporary new glass entry vestibule. An original stained glass window located on the façade is highlighted through the application of a vaulted skylight opening onto the new entry vestibule. The concept respects the original mid-century modern lines and form of the church in both exterior and interior work while providing an expanded gathering space for the growing church congregation.
