Project Sheet
The Historic Metropolitan Theatre, recently restored to its original beauty, first opened in the 1920's as "America's Most Beautiful Playhouse" and remains that today thanks to the hard work of the citizens and leaders of Morgantown. The Mills Group had the privilege of collaborating with David Kemnitzer, Architect of Sheperdstown, to complete over ten distinct scopes of services ranging from back stage improvements to plaster restoration and decorative painting. “The Met Theatre is a historic treasure and we wanted to make sure that in the end the structure would be returned to its natural beauty, function, and incorporate some artful improvements not possible at the time of its original construction – Michael Mills.”
As associate architects on the step-by-step restoration it was a challenge coordinating diverse entities to deal with technical, preservation, life safety and code issues on an operational performing arts facility. “The hard work of all entities involved has successfully restored a public treasure and given it back to the community for all to enjoy. It has also provided a financially positive fuel to further propel the downtown economic engine." – Michael Mills
